CHANDIGARH: Unscheduled power cuts continued to plague residents on Friday. Low voltage and fluctuation in Sector 35 made running air-conditioners, refrigerators, television and other electrical appliances impossible. “Such cuts have become routine in this area even when there is no shortfall in supply. It has been three days and the department is not doing anything.

We have made several calls to the complaint office but to no avail,” said Ekta, a resident of the sector. “Power shutdowns and lack of quality power have made our lives difficult. There is continuous fluctuation in voltage. It is very difficult to do without electricity in this hot summer and humidity,” she added. On Thursday night a breakdown at 11 pm plunged the area into darkness. The electricity department blamed it on a tree falling on overhead wires. Power supply snapped again on Friday morning. It was the same situation in Sector 34. These unscheduled cuts are derailing residents’ schedules.
“Neither can we work nor can we relax due to these power cuts. It has become an everyday problem,” said S S Walia of Sector 34. An officer from electricity department however denied any voltage problem in any sector. G S Mast, executive engineer of UT electricity department, said, “If there is any such problem people should complain, then we will look into it.’’
